Preface

Employees are an organization's most valuable asset. They are multi-faceted stakeholders, and when leveraged, an organization can maximize its success. Through effective communications, employees can be informed, motivated and engaged in the business. However, there can be great danger in communicating what is not demonstrated by an organization's leadership. Alignment and buy-in to any change or initiative need to be established before communicated. Effective internal communicators can facilitate the buy in, align the messages, disseminate the message and measure the effectiveness. Strategies need to reflect the vision and mission of the business. Tactics need to be proactive, interactive and responsive.

Employees are:
  • Intellectual and functional partners
  • Product and service innovators
  • Investors and shareholders
  • Change agents
  • Brand ambassadors and communicators
  • Community contributors
  • Political action agents
  • External critics
  • Participatory journalists
  • People

What skills should every internal communications professional have?
